1. Global leadership in the DVD industry.
The Digital Versatile Disc (DVD) formats, including DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, DVD-ROM, DVD-R and DVD-RW, live up to the promise of higher-density, larger-volume digital media. Pioneer will continue being a leader in creating innovative DVD technologies and products and developing DVD-related business and markets worldwide.
2. Firmer foundation for next-generation displays.
Pioneer lives up to its name in providing such new-age screens offering wide viewing angle visibility and ultra-thin profiles, like our big plasma and small organic electroluminescent (OEL) displays.
We are boosting production of XGA-compatible plasma displays that show ultra-high-resolution digital broadcasts to unique advantage. And we are the first maker of organic EL displays for car stereos and cellular phones, for which clarity is particularly essential. Pioneers current challenge to develop full-color and film-type OEL displays promises even greater things to come.
3. Develop and strengthen network-related product line.
The advent of Digital Broadcasting System (DBS), the internet, and other information sources makes network development increasingly important. To this end, Pioneer dedicates its gateway initiative to integrating and facilitating access to information and communication at critical network hubs at home, and adapting technology for new-generation applications. Now, we are developing a Network Agent System that controls DVD, CD and other entertainment, and accesses various internet- and satellite-based programming.
4. Expand into key device and key technology businesses.
From our current emphasis on product manufacturing, we plan to expand our core business, taking advantage of our lead in DVDs, plasma displays, organic EL displays, speakers, and car stereo equipment and technologies.
